J'ai écrit ce poème la première fois en français(page 50 de mon site)mais je trouvais juste
vis à vis de ma famille de l'écrire aussi dans ma langue maternelle
l'l be back one day, had I promised my grandmother
On leaving our island for a land other
But the years went by and grow up did I
Still far from my country land, my isle
The day when at last I got back home
My dear grandmother had long since gone
Departed from our island for her heavenly home
Leaving within me such despair and woe
Overwhelming my body from head to toe
For alas, caught up by the turmoil of life and time
I’d failed to keep that one promise given
To she who’d been a mother to me, in the absence mine
I searched about me for some vague souvenir
And though things had changed after so many years
Amazingly still stood the old palm tree
Under which Grandma had rocked me upon her knee
I embraced it’s trunk in remembrance of she who no longer I would see
In memory of those years when she’d cared for me
One day, perhaps, if a grandmother I be
I’ll sit with a little one upon my knee
Rocking as Grandma had done with me
Back there on my island, beneath a palm tree
