Au pied du mur, un amour en ruine,
aucune lamentation; aucune amertume,
muraille de Chine, masque de façade ;
chante un rossignol.
Au creux du mur, une lézarde mémoire,
aucun mot emprisonné, aucune solitude,
peine Bastille, liberté Babylonienne ;
soupire le ciment.
En haut du mur, des illusions dévoilées,
aucun jardin suspendu, aucun royaume à reconstruire,
chacun sa Palestine, son ciel à coeur ouvert ;
erre l'étoile du temps.
Derrière le mur, l'inconnu essentiel,
prière de la terre, poussières du soleil,
soif d'espoir, pierre après pierre ;
danse un brin de muguet.
At foot of the wall, a love in ruin,
no lamentation, no bitterness,
wall of China, mask of facade,
sing a nightingale.
In the hollow of the wall, a cracked memory,
no imprisoned word, no loneliness,
sadness Bastille, Babylonian freedom ;
the cement sighs.
At the top of the wall, the revealed illusions,
no terraced garden, no kingdom to be reconstructed,
each his Palestine, its sky at open heart ;
the star of time wanders.
Behind the wall, the essentiel unknown,
prayer of the ground, the dusts of the sun,
thirst of hope, stone after stone;
dance a blade of lily of the valley.
