The drinks giant said continued strong sales of spirits in North America underpinned its performance in the three months to the end of September. Organic net sales grew 5.1pc in the region, compared to 0.6pc growth in the Asia Pacific and 1.3pc in Africa, Eastern Europe and Turkey. Sales in Western during were down 1.1pc. Latin America and the Caribbean reported the strongest growth rates, with sales up 10.9pc, although Diageo said trading in Colombia was "weaker" and currency weakness had led to a destocking in western parts of the region.
