The British-born Morgan first got the idea for the fest after producing a 66-minute documentary in 2003 called “Afro-Punk.†The film featured bands like Bad Brains (the resolutely punky, black group from the 1980s), Fishbone (who incorporate everything from ska to the Zappa-esque avant-garde into rock), and the racially integrated TV on the Radio.
