Like Honda petrol engines, you need to wring its neck to make good progress. The peak torque comes in at 2,000rpm, there's not much happening below that and even afterwards, the Honda belies its numbers with little of its rivals' punch. Send the rev counter spinning upwards and make the most of the sweet-changing six-speed manual gearbox and it will eventually get the work done, but that murders the fuel economy (we achieved 39.8mpg on test), and makes the cabin quite noisy.
