Like Hedda, Titania is a role that will require this 5ft 2in woman to conjure a haughty grandeur. And Titania is also a role that has given us one of the funniest scenes in Shakespeare, when the fairy queen falls in love with a donkey. So how is David Walliams’s Bottom? Smith guffaws. ‘He’s got a lovely Bottom, an absolutely lovely Bottom,’ she says. ‘I’ve been giggling with my friends. How funny – David’s giving his Bottom and I’m giving my Tit. He tweeted me at the start asking me if I’d learnt my lines and I tweeted back, “I’ll see your ass in the morning.†We’re getting all the jokes going.’
