In the first experiment, researchers gave 34 students a series of tasks to perform in either a neat, clutter-free room, or a room with piles of paper and other office clutter scattered around. After they were done, the students were invited to donate their own money to a children's charity. They were also invited to take either an apple or chocolate bar snack.
