In the summer I wore cut-off dungarees. I think I wore a skirt only for this phoney photograph. Some of the debutantes who joined us were dead useless and they shocked the canal people with their hotpants. I did it for two years. I felt a little bit guilty to begin with because I enjoyed it so much. My sister and everyone I knew were in the forces and getting killed, and there I was having a lovely time.
