The Islamic conquest of Persia (637–651) led to the end of the Sassanid Empire. In my opinion this conquest ended Persia forever and started Iran. Granted it is the same land and many are the same decendents so I am nitpicking, but I see few links between them and the Persian civilization under Darius or Xerxes.
