Snowden is technically free, but still circumscribed by the specter of his home country, which refuses to recognize Russia’s grant of political asylum under international law and human rights agreements.

When self-deception is mixed with fear, the brew is even more potent. I once saw a young man with a testicle the size of a grapefruit.
