The survey, which included interviews with the bosses of HSBC, BT, Nestle and Anheuser-Busch InBev, found that 51pc of respondents cited a “lack of financial resources†as the leading barrier to advancing sustainability. A further 40pc said economic conditions had made it “difficult to embed sustainability into core businessâ€. Meanwhile, 37pc of bosses cited a “failure to make a link between sustainability and business value†and 38pc said they couldn’t “accurately quantify the business value of sustainabilityâ€.
