This is a very sweet picture – it’s me with my children, William, Annabel and Thomas, at home in Buckinghamshire cooking something. At the time I thought my kitchen was very modern – you can see the island, which was a new development – and the louvre cabinet doors, which just collected dust. I seem to be using enamel pans, too, which I wouldn’t choose now. I’ve still got that shirt, though. I was a working mother, which was unusual at the time. I would catch the 8am bus to the station and I would get home at 7pm in time for a family meal. We would eat together at least three times a week, if there wasn’t Brownies or Scouts or other commitments. The children would often cook with me – it was something we all enjoyed doing together.
