Between 1939 and 1942, he scored Gone With the Wind (1939), The Letter (1940), Sergeant York (1941), Now, Voyager (1942) and Casablanca (1942), among dozens of others. These alone would have added up to a distinguished career, but Steiner is credited on an astonishing 300 features, some 140 of these for Warner Bros, where he remained as in-house composer for 30 years. He received 24 Oscar nominations, winning three.
