The October 17th “deadline” was manufactured to create a crisis. There was no risk of “default” – the government continued to collect tax revenue at a rate that exceeded its true obligations, it just couldn’t continue to pay for government programs and employees deemed “non-essential” – the things it borrows from China and prints money to pay for now.
