I was asked to approach a figurine of an owl on a shelf and say ‘Open Sesame’, at which point the shelves parted and I walked into the club behind. I was given a tour by Joan, a wonderful woman who knows everything of any importance in the world of magic. Joan showed me around the collection of magic memorabilia and took us to a few shows within the castle. The most outstanding one was performed by a magician called Johnny Ace Palmer. I have never seen such impressive sleight of hand in my life. The rooms in the Magic Castle were filled with photographs and posters relating to the rich history of magic. They even had a few of Houdini’s escape tanks, and costumes belonging to the great magicians of our time. There is a restaurant and a bar, and magic shows every night.
